Mr. Jimi

“Rainy Day, Dream Away”

“Rainy day, dream away
Ah let the sun take a holiday
Flowers bathe an’ ah see the children play
Lay back and groove on a rainy day.

……

Rainy day, rain all day
Ain’t no use in gettin’ uptight
Just let it groove its own way
Let it drain your worries away yeah
Lay back and groove on a rainy day hey
Lay back and dream on a rainy day”

With all the rain we keep having, these lyrics seem to fit well.

So many of his songs take me back to art school during my college years. His iconic look and sound continue to be an influence in my creative work.

You left this world far too soon!

This piece was born from an iteration that had hit a road block. It was previously titled “Missed Opportunities and was a large target symbol that was inspired by old, weathered road signs.

After working on the other bold, graphic originals for CASH, BOWIE and DYLAN, I thought Mr. Jimi would be a perfect stencil style piece toadd as an overlay giving it a bold, edgy, street style look.

This piece has a more weathered by time and the elements look and feel. I love how the tonal blacks and palette knife work give the illusion for the depth and highlights in his iconic hair.

Here are some close ups of the colors and texture
