Ooooo…. I love how this little 12×12 x1.5″ street-style deep piece turned out.

When I started this piece, my initial concept was about “caution”, “anxiety” and “hope” … and what that might look like.

My love for skulls no’s no bounds.

I was looking for a specific pose where it was looking down kind of similar to the Grateful Dead logo but one where a cool flower graphics over lay might work where I could paint that in.

What I found along the way is that sunflowers are hyperacuumulators and are used in the clean up of nuclear disasters. They are capable of absorbing toxic heavy metals from the groynd and have been planted in large fields at Chernobyl and Fukishima in an attempts at soil restoration.

When i think of my daily low grade anxiety (the skull) that rolls through my body this really hit home and resonated with my story of wanting to feel more hope and joy and sunshine (the sunflower) .

As a graphic designer for so much of my career, the angled metallic gold elements represents the daily caution signs you may see on the side of the road near the bridges, exits and even on the back of ambulances.

This piece also has a mixed finish from mattes to spot varnish (the glossy affect on the sunflower) to help highlight the daily or hourly choice of which road to go down; ANXIETY or HOPE and OPPORTUNITY?

Any chance to roll in positivity and the good things keeps me operating in a healthier mental state.

Here’s a screen cap that I found informational and inspirational
