If there is one place in the Bay Area that has always intrigued me, its Alcatraz Island. This island is home to one of the first lighthouses and U.S. forts built on the West Coast later becoming one of America’s most infamous federal penitentiary.
This staircase has been weathered by the harsh northern coast elements over the decades but yet it still stands.
And while it’s no longer in use, it’s a reminder to yesteryear when civil war soldiers and later caretakers used them to access inmates in the big house at the top of the rock.
The old-style polaroid proof print, and blurred effect creates a bleak landscape to perfectly fit the history of this place.
