This is the second oil painting I had ever done. I was inspired by a lot of weathered and textured walls that I hadbeen photographing in the old warehouse districts in Downtown Los Angeles for awhile.
There were lots of concrete walls and weathered stained loading docks that resonated with me internally. I wanted to see what that might look like in experimenting with bold reds and blacks.
The red hues symbolize life, courage, anger and love while the black represents wisdom, power and mystery in this piece.
This canvas is rich with lots of layers of sponged gesso to give it its unique texture.
