“… I’ll be the man in black.”
Johnny Cash is another legend among so many here in Nashville so it only seems fitting to honor this man’s music legacy.
I’ve explored various music styles and influences over the years, but I have long admired his honesty and raw outlook he so easily expressed throughout his music.
“Much of Cash’s music contained themes of sorrow, moral tribulation, and redemption, especially in the later stages of his career.[7][14] His other signature songs include “I Walk the Line“, “Ring of Fire“, “Get Rhythm“, and “Man in Black“. He also recorded humorous numbers like “One Piece at a Time” and “A Boy Named Sue“; a duet with his future wife, June Carter, called “Jackson” (followed by many further duets after their wedding); and railroad songs including “Hey, Porter“, “Orange Blossom Special“, and “Rock Island Line“.[15] During the last stage of his career, Cash covered songs by several late-20th-century rock artists, notably “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails, “Rusty Cage” by Soundgarden and “Personal Jesus” by Depeche Mode. – Wikipedia
This is the fourth painting in a heritage series I’ve painted during this COVID-19 pandemic in an effort to channel positive energies in these uncertain times.
And while it’s a temporary departure, this series still honors visual elements like weathered walls but features more graphic poster style elements like the stencil hero image and hand painted lettering.
